UBBSLA held an information meeting with stakeholders from the agrarian sector in Dobrich
The UBBSLA organized the Info Day “Guardians of the Seeds” on 15th October in the North Eastern town of Dobrich, most famous as the center of the wheat production in Bulgaria. The event gathered more over 30 stakeholders, among whom the vice mayor and experts from the municipality of Dobrich, agricultural producers, gardeners, hobby growers and citizens from Dobrich and the region. The fruitful discussions lead to the common agreement of all represented parties to work on preservation of the old vegetable varieties in an integrated and cooperating way within the following project periods. The participants discussed the possibilities for the preservation of old and traditional varieties of seeds and the creation and development of the Bank for the collection of seeds through the direct participation of the agrarian community. The needs of providing specialized information and training for those employed in the agricultural sector were also discussed.
The SEEDGUARD project started on 11 July 2024 and will run for the next 18 months. The main idea is to create local communities to collect seeds in agricultural areas in order to preserve traditional varieties and resources.
