In the frame of the EU project MARELITT (www.marelitt.eu), UBBSLA intends to start a pilot marine litter retention project. The primary objectives of the project are to raise awareness of marine litter issues and to promote behavioral change among stakeholders (fishermen, port authorities, potentially beach users), and to improve the marine environment by cleaning up some of the fishing grounds. The project will first start in one fishing port: the port of Nesebar. Later on, it might be possible also to involve other ports in the region.
In this relation, the Union of Bulgarian Black Sea Local Authorities (UBBSLA) in cooperation with the Municipality of Nesebar organize a workshop, which will be held in Nesebar Municipality on 26 September 2014. The objective will be to present the project concept, secure the involvement of all relevant partners and seek funding and in-kind contributions.
National, regional and local authorities, port authorities, fishermen’s associations, waste management companies, the tourism industry and NGO’s аre invited to attend the workshop.
