Project CSSC Lab – City Storage and Sector Coupling Lab
The latest call for Interreg Danube projects was highly contested. Of the 270 project proposals submitted, only 25 were approved. The UBBSLA team is pleased to announce that it is a partner in one of the approved projects. The project CSSC Lab – City Storage and Sector Coupling Lab has a duration of 2.5 years. The consortium consists of 17 partners from almost all Danube countries.
According to a recent study published by EUSDR PA2, renewable energy sources will provide 50% of energy demand in Southeast Europe in 2030. With higher levels of renewable energy use, energy storage becomes key in the next phase of the energy transition in all Danube countries. countries. Even in the most advanced regions, the introduction of innovative energy storage and distribution applications is at an early stage of development. As these challenges particularly affect medium and small cities, adequate solutions for urban storage and distribution are needed. To ensure energy efficiency and increased energy security, CSSC Lab will pave the way for accelerating the adoption of the necessary decisions by the cities of the Danube region, which is at a very low level, as public authorities have little knowledge and are concerned about the risks. from investments. To overcome this barrier, the CSSC Lab project will implement a capacity building program in municipalities and demonstrate the viability of CSSC solutions for medium and small towns in the Danube region.
The goal of the CSSC Lab project is to increase energy security and energy efficiency of medium and small target cities in the Danube region, aiming to accelerate the use of energy storage and distribution solutions. In order to build the capacity of municipalities and related stakeholders to evaluate, define and implement specific projects for implementation, the CSSC Lab project:
– will develop a set of model solutions for typical use cases of the CSSC, together with a set of tools for assessing the potential applications of the CSSC Lab in terms of energy efficiency indicators, operational requirements, related business models and financial solutions
– will develop and pilot a comprehensive capacity building program for municipalities with local training at basic and higher level, additional webinars and individual sessions for urban coaching
– will establish Pilot investments in four demo centers in different locations in the project region to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of typical CSSC solutions
– will implement series of study visits and demonstration sessions to allow representatives of cities from all parts of the project region to learn from practical demo cases applied under the framework conditions of the Danube region.
All project activities will be implemented in transnational cooperation of the project partnership and in close cooperation of potential replicator cities and other stakeholders from the municipalities in the Danube region.
